Yesterday’s match between Tottenham and Manchester City in the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium came to a 1-0 win for the home team. Liverpool had an easier time with Porto, winning 2-0 at home. With these results, Italian football is being left behind in the UEFA Ranking.
For the moment, the UEFA Ranking for the 2018/2019 reads:
- Spain 17,857 Points
- England 17,786 Points
- Germany 14,500 Points
- Italy 12,500 Points
The hopes of Italian Football are pretty much in the hands of Napoli and Juventus for this season.

Tottenham–Manchester City 1-0
In the past days I wrote that City could have faced some problems against Tottenham Hotspur F.C. as the home side knows City well after battling against them season through season, but also because Tottenham’s ambitions for this season lie only in a good Champions League run since they’ve been cut out of the title race.
Yesterday evening however even Pep Guardiola made a few mistakes. Benching Sanè, De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus could’ve been a good move in the perspective of shaking things up in the second half. But keeping them out until the 89’ minute was just too much
Also bearing in mind that during the 65’ minute Harry Kane suffered a bad injury. Tottenham, without it’s star striker, started to back pedal and really began to suffer Manchester City’s possession. This could’ve been the moment to go for the killing blow.
In the end, City suffered a 1-0 defeat after conceding Son’s goal. Nothing is compromised and City can very well perform a comeback to push themselves to the semifinal.
Liverpool–F.C. Porto 2-0
Briefly, Liverpool managed to do what Roma failed a few weeks ago against Porto: to not concede any away goals.
A 2-0 win at home practically seals the semifinals for Liverpool, although you should never say never in Football as this Champions League season has already shown.
Tonight there will be the other half of the quarter finals with Ajax–Juventus and Manchester United–Barcelona.
